Crowns and bridges are restorative dental treatments for teeth that have experienced serious damage or decay or have been lost. Our crowns and bridges can effectively restore your teeth’s natural function and appearance.
A dental crown, sometimes referred to as a cap, is often used when a tooth has a large amount of decay and is at risk of breaking. Once the dentist removes the decay from the tooth, there may not be enough structure left to support the daily stresses of chewing, clenching, or grinding. In order to prevent the tooth from breaking, a crown is placed on top of the remainder of the natural tooth. Crowns fill in the missing tooth structure so that the remaining natural tooth is protected from the stresses of eating, clenching, or grinding. A crown can also be attached to a dental implant in order to replace a missing tooth or to protect a tooth that has had root canal treatment.
A bridge is a dental device that is used to replace a missing tooth or several teeth in a row. In order to place a bridge, the tooth on either side of the gap is covered with a crown. Then the replacement tooth or teeth are attached to the two crowns. Dental bridges can also be supported with dental implants.
